Brain Imaging Study: Researchers seek healthy males ages 21-50 for a 12-week study involving taking two FDA-approved antidepressant medications (Celexa and Lexapro), as well as a placebo. Brain Imaging Study: Visual Processing and Reading Ability: Researchers seek people ages 17-45 with dyslexia. Study takes 2 hours. The first part involves completing a series of problem-solving activities, including a brief measure of word reading. The second part will involve viewing visual patterns (checkerboards) on a computer screen while brain activity is measured; non-invasive electrodes will be used to record brain activity. Depression Study: Researchers seek participants ages 18-60 who currently suffer from depression. This study involves an initial diagnostic interview, one blood draw, and a telephone call 8-12 weeks after the study visit. Compensation up to $60. Depression and Insomnia Study: Researchers seek women ages 18-55 who are currently experiencing depression and insomnia but not taking any antidepressant medications. Excessive Drinking and Sadness in College Students Study: Researchers seek college students, ages 18 and older, to participate in a study to find new and effective therapy treatments for stress and unhealthy coping among college students. Students may be eligible if they have been feeling stressed, sad, down in the dumps; lost interest in the things they used to enjoy; have been overwhelmed with school or having a hard time keeping up; have been drinking more because of it; and are unsure what to do about it. This 12-week research study examines whether insulin, which is delivered through an air spray pump into the nose, improves symptoms of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. The study is interested in learning whether insulin administered through the nose decreases food intake and induces weight loss. Participants are compensated up to $155. Schizophrenia Study: Researchers seek men and women ages 18-65 that have a diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder and are treated with antipsychotic medications. This 12-week research study examines the effects of ramelteon, a sleep aide medication, on waist circumference, stomach fat, as well as body composition, when added to antipsychotic medications. The study is interested in learning whether ramelteon improves how the body manages insulin levels, decreases waist circumference and stomach fat, and thereby decreases the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
