Bok announces membership of HUSECBody will provide governance for inter-School science and engineeringHarvard’s interim President Derek Bok Tuesday (April 3) announced the makeup of the University Committee on Science and Engineering (HUSEC), the newly established body that will provide planning and governance of the University’s efforts in interdepartmental and inter-School science and engineering. This past December, when the Harvard Corporation established HUSEC, Bok invited Harvard’s entire science faculty to nominate for committee memberships scientists committed to collaborative work across traditional department and School boundaries. “I am very impressed by the distinction of the founding members of this important new committee and pleased by the willingness of everyone we asked to accept the assignment,” Bok said. “I believe that we have succeeded in assembling a set of members fully capable of addressing the critical issues that will come before them.” The University Committee on Science and Engineering is chaired by University Provost Steven E. Hyman, professor of neurobiology at Harvard Medical School, and its membership includes: • Barry Bloom, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health and Joan L. and Julius H.
