Sports in brief
Women's hoops swoop up share of league title
Forward Christiana Lackner '08 tallied game-highs in points, rebounds, and assists (12, seven, and six, respectively) to help the Crimson get past Princeton, 66-51, this past Saturday (Feb. 24) in New Jersey. Coupled with Dartmouth's loss to Penn, the victory ensured Harvard at least a share of the Ivy League title - the program's 10th - along with the accompanying automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Harvard (12-12; 10-1 Ivy) can lock up the title outright with one win in its remaining three contests. The women will look to do just that this Friday (March 2) when Cornell pays a visit to Lavietes Pavilion. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
Men rock Yale at CSA consolation
The Harvard men's squash team blanked Yale, 9-0, this past Sunday (Feb. 25) in New Haven to secure the Crimson a third-place showing in the Collegiate Squash Association's (CSA) national team championship. Powerhouse Trinity, meanwhile, grabbed its ninth-straight title with a 9-0 win over Princeton, who clipped the Crimson (5-4) a day earlier for the right to play for the CSA trophy.
Five Harvard players will get another shot against some Tigers this weekend (March 2-4) at the ISA individual championships in Philadelphia.
Above and beyond: Tracksters named All-Ivy
Four Harvard women's track and field athletes earned All-Ivy League honors following their performances at the Indoor Heptagonal Championships this past weekend (Feb. 24-25) in New York City. Pacing the Crimson was pole vaulter Clara Blattler '08, who earned first-team honors for clearing 12 feet 5 inches to better her nearest competitor by four inches. She is the first Harvard woman to capture the event at the Heps.
