NewsmakersKaplan elected to Accounting Hall of Fame at Ohio StateBaker Foundation Professor at Harvard Business School Robert S. Kaplan recently joined the select group of academic, business, and government experts who have been elected to the Accounting Hall of Fame. Kaplan was lauded as an "accounting scholar of international acclaim [who] has given new life to cost accounting and revitalized the role of accounting in business management and strategic planning." Established in 1950 at Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business, the Accounting Hall of Fame now comprises 80 honorees. The organization's international board of electors annually elects the honorees. NSP names Harvard senior Josh Bolian top volunteerHarvard senior Josh Bolian has been selected Volunteer of the Year out of 550 candidates by the National Student Partnerships (NSP). The nation's only year-round, student-led service organization, NSP works one-on-one with low-income community members by providing intensive on-site and referral services. Serving as an NSP volunteer during all four years of his college career at Harvard, Bolian has been a leader in office initiatives aimed at bridging the gap between the campus and Cambridge community. From designing a computer training class to creating a comprehensive employment guide for clients, his work has helped in streamlining volunteer training and office management. During the summer of 2005, Bolian served as the summer director of the Cambridge office. Lemann Professor nominated young global leaderThe World Economic Forum (WEF) recently nominated Tarun Khanna, an authority on strategy and emerging markets and Harvard Business School's Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor, as a Young Global Leader 2007. Bestowed annually, the honor recognizes a group of 250 top leaders in business, government, academia, and the media - all under the age of 41 - for "their professional accomplishments, their commitment to society, and their potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world." This year's group was chosen from a pool of more than 4,000 candidates.
