Portrait unveiling
The late Eileen Jackson Southern, a music scholar and Harvard's first black female tenured professor, is the subject of the latest painting in the Minority Portraiture Project, established in 2002 by the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations. The oil portrait was unveiled Feb. 12 at Adams House, with the help of S. Allen Counter, director of the Harvard Foundation, and Natasha Alford '08, president of the Association of Black Harvard Women. The portrait was painted by Stephen Coit '71, M.B.A. '77.
