This month in Harvard history


Dec. 8, 1956 - The Music Department's Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library is dedicated. Designed by Stanley B. Parker '04, the $500,000 wing allows the department to house its previously scattered collections under one roof. Upon completion, it is expected to handle collection growth for the next 40 years.

Dec. 1, 1976 - Along Boylston St. near Memorial Drive, construction begins on new facilities for the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Dec. 2, 1976 - More than 150 enjoy a rare feast as the Peabody Museum celebrates its 110th anniversary with a smorgasbord of 30 different ethnic dishes prepared by more than a dozen local restaurants.

Dec. 2-5, 1976 - A symposium on 'The Ukrainian Experience in the United States takes place at Harvard and the Boston Public Library as part of 'Ukrainian Month in Festival Bostonia's Bicentennial celebrations.

Dec. 5-9, 1976 - Film director Alan J. Pakula visits Harvard as an Artist-in-Residence for the Learning From Performers program.

Dec. 2, 1986 - Twelve students and faculty members from Russian Orthodox seminaries in the USSR visit the Divinity School during their U.S. tour.

Dec. 18, 1986 - The Boston Society of Civil Engineers designates Harvard Stadium as a Massachusetts Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
