Harvard Foundation celebrates 25th anniversary
The students and faculty of the Harvard Foundation celebrated the 25th anniversary of the organization with a formal gala Saturday evening (Dec. 2) in the Eliot House Dining Hall. The night included a reception and dinner followed by a program that featured tributes to the founders of the organization, reflections by former Harvard Foundation students and alumni, performances by undergraduate groups, and visual presentations on the history of the foundation. Although the gala was limited to invited guests, all undergraduate students were invited to participate in a dance to follow in the Kirkland House Dining Hall.
The Harvard Foundation was established in 1981 by the president and deans of the University to improve intercultural and racial understanding. President Derek Bok, the Rev. Professor Peter J. Gomes, and Henry Rosovsky, who was then dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, created the Harvard Foundation and selected S. Allen Counter, associate professor of neurology, as its founding director.
Bake sale to benefit child care center
The Radcliffe Child Care Center is holding its annual bake sale Dec. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Holyoke Center Arcade. The sale will benefit the Radcliffe Child Care Centers Inc., a Harvard-affiliated program in Cambridge that offers high-quality care and education on a fee basis for infants and toddlers aged 3 months to 5 years. A wide range of homemade, prepackaged breads and sweets - ideal for holiday gift-giving - will be available for purchase.
