Sports in brief

Clicking kickers boot Brown, Holy Cross

Men's soccer grabbed its second consecutive victory over a nationally ranked opponent in impressive fashion this past Saturday (Oct. 14), outscoring No. 14 Brown University, 6-2, in Providence, R.I. Midfielder Michael Fucito '09 tallied two goals and three assists while reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Charles Altchek '07 chipped in two goals in a two-minute stretch in the early going of the second half to give Harvard a 4-1 advantage. Most recently, the Crimson dismissed host Holy Cross, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 17) to improve to 10-4 overall. It's the men's fifth-straight victory.

Extra, extra: Field hockey tops Bulldogs in double OT

Harvard field hockey improved to .500 in league play (2-2; 2-10 overall) with a 3-2 double-overtime victory over visiting Yale this past Saturday (Oct. 14). Sophomore Tami Jafar tallied the game-winning goal off a rebounded shot in the 94th minute of play to hand the Crimson their second-straight overtime win against an Ancient Eight club. The Harvard women (who blanked Cornell, 1-0, in an extra session on Oct. 8) are now tied for third place in league standings.
