Rookie standout heads Crimson comeback

Freshman striker Andre Akpan netted a pair of goals against Yale this past Saturday (Sept. 30) at Ohiri Field, including the eventual game-winner in the 54th minute, to help lift the Crimson soccer team past the favored Bulldogs, 3-2. The win ends a two-game slide for Harvard, as the men improve to 6-4-1 overall (1-1-0 league).

Sailing scoops up Regis Bowl

The third-ranked Harvard women's sailing team bettered 13 schools this past weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) to capture the Regis Bowl at Boston University. The Crimson took second place in both divisions for a total of 84 points, 11 ahead of runner-up Yale.

Football rallies, holds on, at Lehigh

The Harvard football team rattled off 28 straight points against Lehigh this past Saturday (Sept. 30) en route to a dramatic 35-33 victory over the host Mountain Hawks. Down 24-7 in the early going of the second stanza, the Crimson scored four unanswered touchdowns over the second and third quarters - and withstood a late Lehigh surge - to shock the home crowd and stay unbeaten on the season (3-0; 1-0 league). The victory - Harvard's first in Bethlehem, Penn., since the 1997 season - ends a four-game losing streak for the Crimson against Lehigh.

Senior Corey Mazza reeled in four catches on the afternoon for 118 yards to pace the Harvard offense (397 yards). Clifton Dawson '07, meanwhile, rushed for three scores for his third straight three-touchdown performance. Quarterback Chris Pizzotti '08, sidelined with a knee injury since Sept. 16, completed 15 of 29 attempts for 291 yards and a touchdown.
