Daytime armed robbery reported in Vanserg Building lot

On Sept. 23 at approximately 1:35 p.m., a female not affiliated with the University was entering her vehicle in the Vanserg Building lot when a male brandishing a folding knife approached and demanded her purse. The victim handed over her purse and the suspect entered a vehicle occupied by another male before fleeing the area.

Escort, transportation information

The victim and a witness described the suspect as a white male of average height and build, late 20s, with shoulder-length blonde hair. He was wearing a grey or light green sweatshirt and baseball cap. The suspects fled the area in a red Ford Escort bearing New Hampshire plate 2271353.

The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) is working aggressively to locate the suspects. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact HUPD, Criminal Investigation Division, at (617) 495-1796.

HUPD reminds members of the Harvard community to be vigilant while walking throughout campus and surrounding areas both during the day and at night. Additionally, always take appropriate safety precautions, such as walking with others and utilizing the shuttle bus and evening van service. Students, faculty, and staff also may call HUPD at (617) 495-1212 if they believe they are in danger while waiting for transportation owing to the hour or circumstance. HUPD will assist with transportation whenever appropriate.
