Pioneering statistician
Frederick Mosteller, founder of Harvard's Statistics Department, died on July 23 at age 89. Public Health Dean Barry Bloom credited Mosteller with transforming the School's Department of Biostatistics into one of the top such departments in the world, calling Mosteller 'a giant in his field.'
