Women's tennis scores fourth straight league title
The 17th-ranked Harvard women's tennis team closed out its regular season with a 6-1 win over host Dartmouth on April 25 to stay perfect in Ivy play for the fourth-straight year. The home team avoided the shutout following Jamie Caplan<'s three-set victory over junior Preethi Mukundan (3-6, 6-2, 10-7) at No. 4 singles. Prior to that loss, Mukundan and doubles partner Laura Peterzan '09 notched an 8-2 victory over Caplan and Ann Scott.
With the win, the Crimson improve to 7-0 in league play (18-6 overall) to hand the program its 17th Ancient Eight title in program history, along with the accompanying automatic berth at the NCAA tournament. The regionals kick off May 12-13. For details, visit http://www.gocrimson.com.
Baseball KO's Big Green to clinch Red Rolfe crown
In the winner-take-all game for the Red Rolfe Division title, Harvard baseball bashed out 14 unanswered runs over the eighth and ninth innings to eclipse Dartmouth this past Sunday afternoon (April 30) in Hanover by a score of 23-9. The Big Green earned a 4-0 shutout in game one to force the decisive second contest. The tiebreaker victory earns Harvard (20-18-1; 14-6 Ivy) a spot in this weekend's best-of-three Ivy championship series against Princeton (16-22-1; 11-9 Ivy), which recently locked up the Gehrig Division. Games one and two will be held Saturday (May 6) at noon and 3:30 p.m., with the tiebreaker, if needed, set for Sunday (May 7) at 1 p.m.
