Coop awards grants for service

Continuing its tradition of contributing to public service projects, the Harvard Coop recently awarded nearly $10,000 in grants to 21 student-led public service organizations for spring and summer 2006. These grants help students to upgrade equipment, design new materials, provide summer services, and launch new projects and special initiatives. The Coop held a grant reception ceremony April 10.

The following organizations were awarded Harvard Coop grants: Artscapers, Cultural Agents at Harvard College; Boston Refugee Youth Enrichment (BRYE) 1-2-1; BRYE Summer; Cambridge Youth Enrichment Program; ExperiMentors; Franklin I-O Summer Program; Harvard Blood Drive; Harvard College Fed Challenge; Harvard Emerging Literary Project (HELP); Harvard Program for International Education (HPIE); Harvard Youth Leadership Institute; Helping Hand and Heart; MIHNUET (Music in Hospitals and Nursing Homes Using Entertainment as Therapy); Keylatch Summer Program; Leaders! Program; Recreational Experience and Arts Creativity with Harvard (REACH); Refugee Youth Summer Enrichment (RYSE); Refugee Youth Term Enrichment (RYTE); St. James Summer Shelter; Small Claims Advisory Service (SCAS); and Strong Women, Strong Girls.

Grant recipients were chosen by Allan Powell, corporate general manager, Harvard Cooperative Society; Kerry McGowan, Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) director of programs; Amanda Sonis Glynn, director, Harvard Public Service Network; and Louise Wills, PBHA grants, technology, and alumni relations coordinator.
