Grapplers grab EIWA titles

Harvard wrestlers Bode Ogunwole '07 and Andrew Flanagan '09 captured individual championships at the 102nd Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) championships at Lehigh University on March 4, helping to guide the Crimson to a fifth-place finish out of 13 schools.

Juniors Robbie Preston and Max Meltzer, competing in the 133- and 141-pound class, respectively, both took second, while freshman Louis Caputo (184) posted a 13-2 decision in the finals over Columbia's Justin Barent for a fifth-place finish.

Following the strong performances - which secure the Crimson two EIWA titles for the fourth time in program history - all five Harvard wrestlers clinched NCAA championship berths. The champs will be held March 17-29 in Oklahoma City.

Sifers silences Knights in OT, Harvard advance

Junior Jennifer Sifers tallied her third goal in as many games this past Sunday (March 5) to lift the Harvard women's hockey team past Clarkson, 2-1, in the final contest of a best-of-three ECAC quarterfinal series. Sifers' score came at 4:22 in the second overtime off a centering pass from Liza Solley '07.

Saturday's game caps a season-long rivalry between the two clubs. All five games between the programs (including the schools' two regular season meetings) were decided by a single goal - with three going into overtime, including a March 4 contest that saw the Knights win, 2-1.

With this latest victory, the Crimson (16-12-4; 3-4-3 Ivy) advance to the semifinal round, where they will face top-seeded St. Lawrence March 11 in Canton, N.Y. The winner moves on to the championship game the following day.
