The Harvard Foundation of Harvard University has selected acclaimed fashion designer and philanthropist Tommy Hilfiger as its 2006 Harvard Foundation Humanitarian Award winner. Hilfiger will receive the award and deliver the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Lecture at the Memorial Church on March 7 at 7:30 p.m.

The Harvard Foundation selected the distinguished designer for his humanitarian work over the past 10 years in support of the Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation, which supports educational opportunities and health initiatives for diverse populations, such as "Camp Tommy," an educational summer camp for urban, underprivileged youth. The Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation is a sponsor for the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial in Washington, D.C. In addition, Hilfiger has supported the Race to Erase Multiple Sclerosis, the Anti-Defamation League, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization, and most recently, the victims of the Hurricane Katrina.

Each year, the students and faculty of the Harvard Foundation nominate a widely recognized philanthropist and humanitarian to receive this award.
