Armed robbery reported on North Harvard Street

Community advisory

On Feb. 23 at approximately 1:30 a.m., two male undergraduate students reported to the Boston Police Department (BPD) that they were the victims of an armed robbery while walking on North Harvard Street near the Murr Athletic Center. The victims were approached by an individual who displayed a handgun and demanded that they hand over their belongings. The victims surrendered their wallets and a cell phone. The suspect then punched one of the victims before fleeing.

A search by the BPD, and the Harvard University and Massachusetts State Police departments failed to locate the offender.

The suspect was described as a dark-skinned male, possibly Hispanic, 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, with facial hair. He was wearing a black jacket with a hood, blue jeans, and dark boots.

Because this incident did not occur on University property, it is being investigated by the BPD. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the BPD's District 14 Detectives at (617) 343-4256.

HUPD reminds members of the Harvard community to be vigilant while walking throughout campus and surrounding areas both during the day and at night and to take the appropriate precautions, such as walking with others and utilizing the shuttle bus and walking escort service. If at any time you observe any type of suspicious activity or have been the victim of a violent crime, regardless of the location of the incident, notify the Harvard University Police Department immediately at (617) 495-1212.
