Tay nabs rookie honors
The Ivy League nominated Harvard basketball's Emily Tay '09 its Rookie of the Week for the period beginning Dec. 12. The freshman guard is Harvard's top scorer off the bench this season (6.3 points per game), and is averaging the most minutes (17.3 per game) of any Crimson reserve.
Preston, Ogunwole can't carry wrestling at Hofstra
Harvard wrestlers Robbie Preston '07 and Bode Ogunwole '07, ranked No. 9 and 8 in the country, respectively, won matches by fall against host Hofstra on Dec. 11, but the Pride, ranked 20th in the nation, dominated the other weight classes to defeat the visitors, 33-12, in the Crimson's first dual meet of the season.
With their lineup depleted by injury, Harvard was forced to forfeit the 125-pound match, yet Preston quickly tied the score at 6 in the 133-pound class, pinning his opponent in 2:40. The win improved Preston's season record to 12-2. Heavyweight Ogunwole, meanwhile, closed the meet with a pin of Jon Andriac in 3:44 to improve to 7-3 individually.
Women's swimming and diving stay flawless
The visiting Harvard women's swimming and diving team defeated Penn, 204.5-95.5, on Saturday (Dec. 10) to stay perfect on the season (7-0 overall; 5-0 Ivy). Senior swimmer Jane Evans and sophomore diver Samantha Papadakis each contributed two individual wins as the Crimson took 14 of the 16 scored events en route to their 17th straight dual-meet win.
