Men, women icers stand ground in poll
On the strength of a three-game win streak, the Harvard women's hockey team moved up a spot in this week's U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) national poll. The women (6-4-2; 4-2-2 ECACHL) now stand at No. 9 behind regional rivals Princeton (No. 7) and New Hampshire (No. 3), and top-ranked Minnesota-Duluth. Meanwhile, the men's squad (7-4-1, 6-4-0 ECACHL) are currently ranked 15th in the poll.
In individual news, the ECAC has named freshman forward Jenny Brine its rookie of the week following her seven-point performance over the Crimson's past three outings. Brine has recorded three goals and five assists since Nov. 30.
Sophomore smashes 22-year-old school record
Harvard distance runner Lindsey Scherf finished the indoor 5,000-meter run in a school record 15 minutes, 42.81 seconds, to help lift the Crimson past Boston College, 80-46, in both schools dual meet opener this past Saturday (Dec. 3) at Gordon Track. In the young 2005-06 season, Scherf's time is the fastest recorded performance for the event worldwide, shattering a 22-year-old Harvard record by more than 18 seconds. Her time (nearly eight seconds better than last winter's national championship time) automatically qualifies Scherf for the NCAA indoor championships.
