Breukelein Institute honors Gomes

The Breukelein Institute, a nonreligious, not-for-profit project of the Brooklyn Oratory of St. Philip Neri, recently presented the Gaudium Award to the Rev. Professor Peter J. Gomes, the Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister in the Memorial Church. The award, which was given to three additional individuals, honors those in the arts or public service whose lives exemplify the ideals of St. Philip Neri, who founded the oratory and is known as the Saint of Joy. The award ceremony publicly honors individuals for "illuminating the horizon of human experience in their vocations and professions."

Porter recognized for his 'breakthrough discoveries'

Michael E. Porter, the Bishop William Lawrence University Professor, has received the 2005 John Kenneth Galbraith Medal from the American Agricultural Economics Association in recognition of his "breakthrough discoveries in economics and outstanding contributions to humanity through leadership, research, and service." The medal is presented annually to an individual whose writings and contributions to policymaking have changed the ways people think and governments operate.

Knoll awarded for career contributions to science

Fisher Professor of Natural History Andrew H. Knoll has been chosen to receive the 2005 Paleontological Society Medal, given by the society in recognition of a person "whose eminence is based on advancement of knowledge in paleontology." Additionally, two months ago Knoll received the Raymond C. Moore Medal from the Society for Sedimentary Geology for his career contributions to science.
