Dawson wows, plows Dartmouth to reset Harvard bar for yards

Junior tailback Clifton Dawson finished off the visiting Big Green this past Saturday with 223 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns to replace Chris Menick '00 as Harvard's all-time career rushing leader. Dawson, who surpassed Menick's record by five yards with 3,335, also tallied his 40th career touchdown in the 42-14 Harvard win. He needs just 95 yards to move into fifth place in the Ivy League for total career yards.
The big win leaves Harvard (4-3 overall; 2-2 Ivy) a game out of the four-way tie for first place in the league standings. Brown, Penn, Princeton, and Yale all sit at 3-1 in the Ancient Eight, while Harvard is a game back at 2-2 with three games left. The Crimson take on host Columbia (2-5 overall, 0-4 Ivy) Nov. 5.
Weekend a mixed bag for Harvard sailing
This past weekend, the Harvard women sailing team hosted and captured the Victorian Coffee Urn amid a snowstorm (Oct. 29) and pleasant, sunny conditions (Oct. 30). The Crimson beat out 16 other schools to take the event. The coed team also managed a first-place finish over the weekend in the 18-team Erwin Schell Trophy race, hosted by Charles River rival MIT. The freshman boat, meanwhile, tied for sixth in the Nickerson Trophy at Rhode Island. Lastly, in Michigan at the ICSA Sloop National Championships, Harvard sailors Vincent Porter '06, Matthew Knowles '07, and Robby McIntosh '07 totaled 72 points to finish 10th.
OT win keeps water polo afloat
Harvard men's water polo defeated visiting Iona 11-10 in sudden death overtime this past Saturday to secure the Crimson the sixth seed in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's upcoming Eastern Championships competition. The Crimson swimmers, who wrapped up their October with a 6-4 winning record (9-11 overall), will host the event Nov. 12-13.
