Turnovers undermine Crimson at Big Red

A stingy Cornell football team limited the visiting Crimson to just 226 total yards on its way to a 27-13 victory this past Saturday (Oct. 8) in Ithaca, N.Y. Held scoreless through the first three quarters, the Crimson fell victim to three interceptions and a pair of fumbles to help set up the squad's first back-to-back defeat since the 2003 season. Harvard fell to Lehigh, 49-24, on Oct. 1.

Quarterback Liam O'Hagan '07 paced the Harvard offense with 87 rushing yards, yet was picked off three times for the second-straight week on his way to collecting 95 passing yards. Sophomore receiver Matt Lagace made five catches for 41 yards.

Saturday's loss snaps a nine-game Ivy winning streak for Harvard (2-2; 1-1 Ivy). Next up, the Crimson - ranked 20th in the nation prior to the loss at Cornell - take on Lafayette in Easton, Penn., this Saturday (Oct. 15).

W.I.N. names Harvard grapplers among nation's best

Harvard wrestlers Robbie Preston, Bode Ogunwole, and Max Meltzer have been ranked among the nation's best in their respective weight classes by Wrestling International News (W.I.N.) Magazine. The three juniors grabbed the eighth, ninth, and eighteenth spots, respectively.

The team opens its 2005-06 season at the East Stroudsburg Invitational in Pennsylvania on Nov. 19.

Clay Johnson '07 takes single-handed champs

Harvard sailing team member Clay Johnson '07 captured his third-straight New England Single-handed Championship title this past weekend (Oct. 8-9) with a dominant performance at Lake Champlain in Vermont. Johnson emerged from a field of 35 sailors with just 33 points in 14 races, placing outside the top three finishers just once.

The victory qualifies Johnson for the national championship regatta this November in Hawaii. His teammate, Vincent Porter '06, also qualified for the national championship with a fourth-place finish in Vermont.
