State fair, films ring in semester
Corn dogs, cotton candy, a mechanical bull, scattered bales of hay, and a dunking booth transformed usually staid Tercentenary Theatre into the first Harvard State Fair on a shady Sept. 23rd evening.

As Harvard affiliates lined up on one side of the green for sloppy joes and sausages, determined students stood at a longer line on the other side to get a chance to dunk their favorite House master or dean. To the tunes of classic country music, meanwhile, a mechanical bull unseated rider after rider in front of the steps of Widener Library.

Another transformation of the Yard took place only days later when Movie Time at Harvard featured an adventuresome Sunday evening (Sept. 25) double feature, sponsored by President Summers. "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Batman Begins" flickered through the night as students, faculty, and staff sat on blankets eating popcorn, drinking soda, or simply getting lost in other worlds.
