Evening With Champions heats up the ice

The color! The glitter! The hot sizzle of skates on ice! Top Olympic and world skaters will continue to fight cancer this fall as they gather once more at America's premier figure skating exhibition, An Evening With Champions, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m., and Oct. 15, at 7 p.m., at Harvard's Bright Hockey Center.

Marking the 36th exhibition performance to benefit the Jimmy Fund (and the 36th year Harvard has partnered with the fund and with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), skating champions both past and present will join host Paul Wylie on the ice to raise awareness and financial support for the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber. Since its inception in 1970 by the students of Eliot House, this entirely student-run event has raised more than $2.2 million for pediatric cancer aid and research.

Wylie, the 1992 Olympic Silver Medalist (and Harvard graduate '90-'91), will make his 21st appearance with the show. He will be joined by an impressive slate of talent including 1998 Gold Medalist Ilia Kulik, two-time Gold Medalist Ekaterina Gordeeva, two-time U.S. National Champion (2004, 2005) Johnny Weir, 2005 U.S. National Bronze Medalist Kimmie Meissner (Oct. 15 only), 2005 World Junior Champions Morgan Matthews and Maxim Zavozin, and 14-time National Precision Skating Champions, the fabulous Haydenettes.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for children, $7 for senior citizens and Harvard undergraduates. Group rates are also available ($24 and $9). Tickets may be purchased by calling (617) 493-8172 or online at http://www.aneveningwithchampions.org.
