Dormandy to direct research at Belfer Center
The U.S. National Security Council's Xenia Dormandy will join the Kennedy School of Government's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs as executive director for research, Graham Allison, director of the center, recently announced. Dormandy will begin her position at the Belfer Center in September.
Dormandy, who joins the center from a career in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors in the United States and abroad, most recently served as director for South Asia on the National Security Council.
Berwick appointed knight
This past July, Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the honor of knighthood upon Donald Berwick, professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health, and clinical professor of pediatrics and health care policy in the Department of Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School.
Berwick received the award for his efforts in helping to reform the National Health Service, Britain's health-care system. Berwick was the only member of the Modernization Plan's board who was not a British national.
Aiello named director of the Beetham Eye Institute
Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Lloyd Paul Aiello, a leader in the field of academic ophthalmology, was recently named director of Joslin Diabetes Center's Beetham Eye Institute. Aiello, who is the head of Joslin's Section on Eye Research, served for two years as the associate director of the institute.
Political science association set to honor Hochschild
Henry LaBarre Jayne Professor of Government Jennifer L. Hochschild, a professor of African and African Åmerican Studies, has been selected a co-winner of the American Political Science Association's 2005 Frank Johnson Goodnow Award (along with Professor Paul Allen Beck of Ohio State University). Given annually, this award recognizes distinguished service to the profession.
The association will host an awards ceremony for the winners on Sept. 1 in Washington, D.C.
