Sports in brief

Women's crew to compete for crown

Radcliffe heavyweight crew has received one of the 12 team bids to the NCAA Championship regatta to be held May 27-29 on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif. Finishing fourth at the Eastern Sprints May 15, the Black and White will join Ivy squads Brown, Princeton, and Yale in the hunt for the national crown. Radcliffe won both the varsity race and overall team title in 2003, and finished 10th last season.

Cardinal blank Crimson tennis

Top-ranked Stanford (24-0) bounced No. 19 Harvard from round 16 of the NCAA women's tennis champions with a 4-0 defeat May 19 at the University of Georgia, Athens. Playing in their 12 NCAA tournament, Harvard falls to 19-7 on the season. The Cardinal, meanwhile, went on to capture the title with a 4-0 shutout of Texas.
