Men's squash nabs Ivy League title
The No. 2 Harvard men's squash team captured its 36th outright Ivy League title with a 6-3 win over visiting Yale this past Saturday (Feb. 12). All six of Harvard's victories came as 3-0 shutouts to wrap up league play for the Crimson at 6-0. The women, meanwhile, suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, dropping a 5-4 decision to give Yale its second-straight league crown.
Fencing scores pair of championships
The Harvard men's and women's fencing teams dismissed visiting Princeton and Yale this past Saturday (Feb. 12) to earn both programs' Ivy League titles. After edging the Tigers, 14-13, the Crimson men downed the Elis, 19-8, to secure a share of the title - their first in 28 years - with perennial power Columbia. Meanwhile, a strong saber squad, paced by freshmen Carolyn Wright and Alexa Weingarden, who went undefeated on the afternoon, helped the Crimson women sweep the visitors and capture their first league fencing title in program history.
Eagles top men's hockey, 4-1, in Beanpot consolation
Second-ranked Boston College notched three unanswered goals in the middle period to overwhelm the Harvard men's hockey team, 4-1, in consolation play of the 53rd annual Beanpot this past Monday evening (Feb. 14) at the FleetCenter. Senior goalie Dov Grumet-Morris turned in 38 saves in the losing effort, as the Crimson fell to 15-7-2 on the season.
In the title game, Boston University freshman Chris Bourque tallied an OT goal to lift the Terriers past Northeastern, 3-2, for the program's tournament-leading 26th championship.
The No. 9 Crimson host two of their final five games of the season this weekend against Clarkson (Feb. 18) and St. Lawrence (Feb. 19). Visit http://www.gocrimson.com for scores.
HBS Rugby Club seeks recruits
The Harvard Business School (HBS)/Grad Rugby Team has embarked on its 2005 campaign to bring home the grad team world title. Roster spots are still open for the spring finale at Duke University in April, when 28 teams from around the world will compete for the annual title. Students, faculty, and recent alumni of all levels of experience are invited to train and compete with the club.
