Swimming and diving cruise to perfection
Harvard's swimming and diving teams continued their glide toward a perfect season this past weekend, as the men and women upset the Princeton and Yale programs in New Haven to improve to 7-0 and 10-0, respectively.
The Crimson men captured six of the final nine events on Sunday (Jan. 30) to down the Tigers, 225-128, and the Bulldogs, 252-99. The women, meanwhile, overpowered Yale by 139 points (229-90) and Princeton by 87 (203-116) on Saturday (Jan. 29). The latter victory against the Black and Orange marked the Tiger's first loss in Ivy action since the 1997-98 season. The pair of wins propels the Crimson women to a 10-0 dual meet record (7-0 Ivy).
The women will look to officially upset Princeton's five-year reign atop the Ivies at the league championships at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool on Feb. 24. The men resume action on Feb. 12 at Penn.
Cserny nets player of the week honors
Behind a pair of double-double performances against visiting Cornell and Columbia this past weekend, the Ivy League named Harvard women's basketball captain Reka Cserny '05 its Player of the Week. Cserny, who previously earned the distinction on Jan. 3, averaged 24 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in Harvard's decisive victories over the Big Red and the Lions.
The Crimson center - who paces the league with 21.2 points per game and ranks third in rebounds per game with 8.5 - now has 1,617 career points behind former teammate Hana Peljto '04 (2,109) and 1998 graduate Allison Feaster (2,312).
Harvard (10-6 overall; 2-1 Ivy) returns to play this weekend when it faces host Princeton on Friday (Feb. 4) at 7 p.m. Check http://www.gocrimson.com for updates.
