Upcoming tsunami vigils
As part of a nationwide candlelight vigil for victims of the tsunami, the University community is invited to gather in Copley Square on Feb. 4 from 7 to 8 p.m. Representatives from various aid organizations will discuss progress in relief efforts and speak about short- and long-term needs. At 7:45 p.m., the mayor of Cambridge, Michael A. Sullivan, will lead a moment of silence in memory of those who have died, in support of the survivors, and in gratitude to the relief workers.
Those planning on attending will have the opportunity to donate money for relief efforts to the organization of their choice, and are kindly asked to bring their own candles. The Boston vigil is presented by South/East Asia American Alliance, New England, and is sponsored by the Thai Association of Boston.
Also on Feb. 4, students in the Harvard Graduate School of Education's Arts in Education Program are sponsoring a tsunami relief benefit jam in Askwith Lecture Hall, Longfellow Hall, from 7 to 9 p.m. Students will perform in hopes of raising $1,000 for the construction of a single home. Organizers request a minimum donation of $5. For more information, contact kameka_dempsey@gse.harvard.edu.
