Sports in brief

Icers back off Bears, 4-1, land league praise

The host Harvard men's hockey team defeated Hockey East foe Maine, 4-1, on Dec. 11 to collect its fifth straight victory of the season and improve to 9-3-1 overall (6-3-1 ECAC; 2-1-1 Ivy). The win was the Crimson's first against the Black Bears in three seasons. Maine last edged Harvard, 5-4, in the 2004 NCCA Tournament.

Goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris '04 was named ECAC Player and Goaltender of the Week for his recent efforts, including a season-best 39 saves against the Black Bears. Meanwhile, freshman Jon Pelle (five goals and five assists on the season) was named ECAC Rookie of the Week for the third time since November.
