Sports in brief

Mahon named rookie of the week

Freshman volleyballer Laura Mahon earned rookie of the week accolades from the Ivy League for her match-high 16 kills in Harvard's 3-0 win over Dartmouth on Oct. 1. The outsider hitter, currently third on the team with 2.71 kills per game, has registered 3.29 digs, .43 blocks, and .71 aces per game in Ivy action.

With the win against the Big Green, the Crimson improved to 2-0 in league play. Harvard, which dropped a 3-1 match to B.C. on Tuesday (Oct. 5) to fall to 7-5 overall, will host Columbia and Cornell on Friday (Oct. 8) and Saturday (Oct. 9).

Tracy, Dawson lift football to third straight victory

Senior linebacker Sean Tracy was named Ivy League defensive player of the week for his stellar outing against Lafayette this past Saturday (Oct. 2) in Easton, Penn. Tracy finished with 14 tackles, two interceptions, and a sack in the Crimson's 38-23 win.

On the offensive end, sophomore running back Clifton Dawson rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns - his third straight 18-point performance.

Harvard (3-0; 1-0 Ivy) hosts Cornell on Saturday (Oct. 9) at 12:30 p.m.
