CHA elects new chair, vice chair

Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) recently announced that Francis H. Duehay, community leader, educator, and former elected official, has been elected to chair CHA's board of trustees. A nonprofit health-care system with strong ties to Harvard and Tufts medical schools, and with Boston's tertiary hospitals, CHA also announced the election of Mary Cassesso, associate dean of administration and finance at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (SDM), to the position of vice chair. Both appointment became effective July 1.

Duehay previously served as an assistant dean and lecturer at the Graduate School of Education, and as a fellow of the Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School of Government. Cassesso has spent the past 10 years at SDM.

Rubin honored at Joint Statistical Meetings

At the Joint Statistical Meetings held in Toronto last month, the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies honored John L. Loeb Professor of Statistics Donald B. Rubin with the 2004 R.A. Fisher Lectureship.

Established in 1963, the lectureship recognizes "fundamental and innovative contributions to scientific investigation." Specifically, the committee honored Rubin with the lectureship for his "development and promotion of modern statistical methodologies including missing data methods, causal inference, the EM algorithm, and multiple imputations, and for his considerable impact on applied data analysis and Bayesian statistics."

In addition, Rubin received the Wiley & Sons Inc. 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award for "special recognition as an author in, friend of, and contributor to the statistical sciences."

The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies includes the American Statistical Association, the International Biometric Society, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and the Statistical Society of Canada.
