Design by Silvetti, Machado receives BSA award
The Boston Society of Architects (BSA) recently named the Honan-Allston branch of the Boston Public Library - designed by architects Jorge Silvetti, Nelson Robinson Jr. Professor in Architecture, and Rodolfo Machado, professor of architecture and urban design - the recipient of the prestigious Harleston Parker Medal for 2003. Since 1923, the BSA has given this medal to "the most beautiful piece of architecture, building, monument, or structure" built in Great Boston in the past 10 years.
The medal adds to the building's list of awards, which include citations from the American Institution of Architects (AIA), the New England Chapter of the AIA, the Boston Society of Architects, and the Boston Society of Landscape Architects.
Foundation to fund Carpenter's research
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently announced that it will fund a research proposal by professor of government Daniel Carpenter. Carpenter's proposed research - "Reputation and Regulation: A Study of Pharmaceutical Policy at the FDA" - will examine the economic, social, and political power of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. His proposal was one of nine selected by the foundation for funding in 2003.
