New Nieman wing to honor Knight Foundation
The newly added wing to the Walter Lippmann House - home of the Nieman Foundation at Harvard - will be named in honor of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The Knight Center, which includes a seminar room, a library, and a media technology lab, is named in honor of the Knight Foundation's long-standing support of the Nieman's mission of education for journalists.
MBB research awards available
The Mind/Brain/Behavior Interfaculty Initiative (MBB) is now accepting applications for three programs that support interdisciplinary research at Harvard. MBB research awards will support novel, interdisciplinary, faculty- and graduate student-led research projects. Research must focus on any of the multitude of questions concerning how the brain functions to sculpt human nature.
Graduate research training fellowships will provide single-term stipend awards to doctoral students seeking to immerse themselves in a different discipline. Applications are due Nov. 25. For more information and applications, visit http://mbb.harvard.edu.
McLaughlin to discuss 'Arts of Diplomacy'
As part of the Peabody Museum's upcoming exhibit - "From Nation to Nation: Examining Lewis and Clark's Indian Collection" (opening Dec. 12) - Irene Castle McLaughlin, research associate at the museum and curator of the exhibit, will deliver a lecture on Nov. 18. McLaughlin will discuss the research behind the exhibit and her newly published book, "Arts of Diplomacy: Lewis and Clark's Indian Collection." The lecture starts at 5:30 p.m. in Geological Lecture Hall, 24 Oxford St., and will be followed by a reception and book signing.
