Crimson bounce Big Red, 27-0

Junior quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 12 of 17 passes for two touchdowns and rushed for another to shut out Cornell this past Saturday (Oct. 11) in Ithaca, 27-0. The win marked Harvard's first whitewash of Cornell since a 10-0 win in the 1968 season and the first on the road since 1893.

The win garnered a pair of accolades for the Crimson, as the Ivy League named cornerback Benny Butler '04 (12 tackles and an interception on the day) defensive player of the week. And in his second straight selection, freshman wide receiver Corey Mazza has been chosen rookie of the week for his two receptions for 81 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown grab.

With the win, the Crimson - ranked No. 23 in the Sports Network poll and No. 24 in the USA Today/ESPN poll - improve to 4-0 overall (2-0 Ivy). Harvard hosts Lafayette this Saturday (Oct. 18) at 1 p.m.

Strong weekend for Harvard sailing

Harvard sailing team members Vincent Porter '06 and John Mulcahy '04 lifted the Crimson to a first-place showing in the 47th White Trophy Regatta this past Sunday (Oct. 12). Racing from Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop, the Porter/Mulcahy boat took both races, finishing first overall with 10 points to defeat a field of 11 schools, including top-finishers Dartmouth (16), Tufts (18), and Rhode Island (22).

The Crimson also captured first place in the Ivy League Championships. Sophomore boat mates Sloan Devlin and Mallory Greimann captured four of the 16 races, and seniors Jennie Philbrick and Emily Nielson took one first-place finish.

Harvard finished with 156 points to beat out Dartmouth (160), Yale (206), Brown (249), Columbia (250), Pennsylvania (304), Princeton (375), and Cornell (476).

Field hockey flawless in Ivy action

Harvard's field hockey team blanked Cornell 6-0 this past Sunday (Oct. 12) to remain perfect in league play (3-0), while improving to 8-3 overall. Senior Kate McDavitt notched a pair of goals and teammate Shelley Maasdorp '05 recorded a goal and two assists. Ranked No. 16 nationally, the Crimson visit Yale this Saturday (Oct. 18) before returning for a four-game stand at Jordan Field, where the team remains unbeaten with six victories.
