Crews cruise to national titles:

Radcliffe heavyweight crew captures NCAA championship, men's varsity heavyweights remain unbeaten throughout 2003 season

The Radcliffe heavyweight crew captured the NCAA championship this past Sunday (June 1) on Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis. The Black and White clinched the NCAA team title - the team's second since 1972 - by winning the varsity race with a time of 6:26.98, besting Michigan (6:28.58), Stanford (6:29.54), Washington (6:30.07), Virginia (6:31.49), and Southern California (6:38.33).

The previous day in Camden, N.J., the men's heavyweight and lightweight eights each powered their way to open water victories in their respective grand finals of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association's national championships. With the win, the varsity heavyweights remain unbeaten throughout the 2003 season, and pick up the program's first national title in 11 years.

Men's crew will close out its season this Saturday (June 7) in New London, Conn., when the Crimson face Yale in the 151st edition of America's oldest intercollegiate sporting event.
