Berman named acting VP for finance
Berman has been at Harvard since 1991, serving first as a consultant to the president of Radcliffe College, then as associate dean for finance of FAS, and most recently as senior adviser to the dean of FAS.
Before coming to Harvard, Berman worked for nearly 10 years in public accounting, first at Price Waterhouse and then as a partner at Richard A. Eisner & Co. in New York. Her special areas of expertise were taxation, restructuring, and financial analysis. She is a C.P.A., and has an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She has a B.A. in French literature from Cornell University, where she graduated with distinction and was Phi Beta Kappa. Between her time in public accounting and the start of her Harvard career, Berman did graduate work in Italian literature at Columbia and New York University.
Upon conclusion of the search for a vice president for finance, Berman plans to return to the Office of the Dean of FAS. President Lawrence H. Summers commented, "Ann brings a high level of financial expertise and knowledge of Harvard University and its academic mission. All of us can look forward to working closely with her over the coming months. We are delighted to welcome her to Massachusetts Hall."
