KSG junior named foreign affairs fellow

The U.S. Department of State has selected Kennedy School student Jane Rhee as a Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellow. Rhee, a junior majoring in government, will receive an annual orientation in Washington, D.C., paid summer internships with the State Department, and guidance from a Foreign Service mentor during her graduate studies. Upon completion of her graduate degree, Rhee will enter the Foreign Service in fulfillment of a service obligation to the Department of State.

Royal Geographical Society honors Wilson
E.O. Wilson, Mellon Professor of the Sciences and Pellegrino University Professor, has received the 2002 Busk Medal from the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers). Wilson, who was unable to personally accept the award at the society’s annual June meeting in London, received the medal for his contributions to biogeography and conservation.

Mleczko to be inducted to Hall of Fame
A.J. Mleczko ’99, former captain of the 1999 national champion Harvard women’s hockey team, will be inducted into the fifth class of the 2002 New England Women’s Sports Hall of Fame on Sept. 24 at the Sheraton Boston. A Patty Kazmaier Award recipient in 1999, Mleczko earned an Olympic gold medal in 1998, and a silver medal at the Salt Lake City games.

APA awards Holzman
Philip Holzman, the Esther and Sidney R. Rabb Professor of Psychology Emeritus, has been awarded the Alexander Gralnick Research Investigator Award by the American Psychological Association (APA). The $20,000 award was presented to Holzman at last month’s annual APA meeting in Chicago. The award money will be used to fund pilot studies in his lab.

Sevcenko honored by dedication
In celebration of his 80th birthday, volume 95 of the Byzantinische Zeitschrift – the flagship publication for international Byzantine knowledge – has been dedicated to Ihor Sevcenko, Dumbarton Oaks Professor of Byzantine History and Literature Emeritus.
