The latest in gene research
David Altshuler, assistant professor of genetics and of medicine at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, is studying gene patterns known as haplotypes. "Once the whole genome is characterized in terms of haplotypes, the amount of work required to map diseases should be decreased by 20- to 50-fold," Altshuler says. (Staff photo by Justin Ide)
