Faculty council notice for May 1

At its 14th meeting of the year the Faculty Council considered a proposed merger of the departments of East Asian Languages & Civilizations and Sanskrit & Indian Studies with Professor Peter Bol (chair, E.A.L.C.) and Professor Leonard van der Kuijp (chair, Sanskrit and Indian Studies).

The Council also continued its discussion of possible changes in practices and policies with regard to grading and honors in Harvard College with Deans Susan Pedersen (history and Undergraduate Education), Jeffrey Wolcowitz (economics and Undergraduate Education), and John O'Keefe (history and literature and Undergraduate Education).

Finally, the Council forwarded to the Faculty docket approval of Courses of Instruction for 2002-2003.

The next Faculty Meeting is on Tuesday, May 7. The preliminary agenda deadline for the May 21 Faculty Meeting is Monday, May 6 at 9:30 a.m.
