Hill selected for New Century program

Allan G. Hill, Andelot Professor of Demography at the School of Public Health (SPH), was recently selected for the newly created Fulbright New Century Scholars Program. Hill, who teaches and directs research in population studies in the Department of Population and International Health at SPH, joins 29 other scholars conducting research on this year's theme - "Challenges of Health in a Borderless World." Hill's proposal examines global and national strategies for the promotion of women's health in West Africa.

Meng receives Presidents Award

The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS) recently awarded the 2001 Presidents Award to Xiao-Li Meng, professor of statistics. The award is given annually to a young member of the statistical community (under 41 years of age) in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the profession of statistics. The committee recognized Meng's far-reaching and influential research, his energetic teaching and guidance of graduate students, and his dedication to the profession's associations and publications. Meng received the award in August at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Atlanta.

Kleinman honored for exemplary service

Arthur Kleinman, professor of social and medical anthropology, received the Franz Boas Award for Exemplary Service to Anthropology at the 100th annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association. Kleinman, the Presley Professor of Medical Anthropology, is widely recognized for his efforts in significantly advancing medical anthropology as an important field of study. He received the award on Dec. 1 in Washington, D.C.
