Notification of suspicious packages encouraged, rumors discouraged

Despite reports of suspicious packages and materials at Harvard, no materials to date have been received that have been hazardous to the community's health and safety.

The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) and the Environmental Health and Safety office have responded to all calls and continue working with local police, fire, and hazardous materials units in responding to these incidents.

Any concerns about packages or materials received should be directed to HUPD at (617) 495-1212.

In addition, except for notifying the police of suspicious packages or suspicious materials, please be aware that circulating unsubstantiated rumors and inaccurate information within the workplace is detrimental to the community, and puts unnecessary strain on emergency systems.

News and official updates will be circulated via e-mail and posted at http://www.news.harvard.edu/specials/tradecenter.

Also on that site is information about what to do with any suspicious packages or materials you may observe.
