Safety announcement from Chief Riley

Following the horrific tragedies in New York City and Washington, D.C., a number of threatening calls have come into the University, including a bomb threat that led some people to leave Holyoke Center on the morning of Friday, Sept. 14.

Calls such as these are immediately investigated and assessed by the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD); to date these calls have been determined to be false and unfounded. Like most institutions across the country at this unique time of heightened awareness, Harvard has increased security throughout the University.

With the increased numbers of threatening phone calls, the police would like to remind the members of the community to be aware and vigilant about any suspicious activity, whether it be persons, packages, or communications, and to report any of these incidents to HUPD immediately at (617) 495-1212. Harvard community members should also familiarize themselves with the specific security procedures for their areas.
