Responding to calls from students of various cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations will remain open to provide a place for students to gather and talk about the terrorism tragedy, according to Foundation Director S. Allan Counter Jr.

Counter, an associate professor of neurology, said he decided to keep the center open all day and into the night after receiving calls from students who indicated that they were fearful that their ethnic or religious background would make them targets for harassment in the wake of the tragedy.

Counter said food would be provided and foundation staff would be available if students want to talk about the situation. The foundation is located in the basement of Thayer Hall.
