Deputy Secretary of Commerce to teach at KSG

Deputy Secretary of Commerce Robert L. Mallett will teach at the Kennedy School of Government this semester, Dean Joseph S. Nye Jr. announced. Mallett will join the Kennedy School and serve as visiting professor of the practice of public management.

"Robert Mallett's background as deputy secretary of commerce will give students an insight into the inner working of government and on ways to improve it," Nye said.

Mallett, the second-highest official in the Commerce Department, acted as chief operating officer for the Department of Commerce. In addition to providing leadership and direction for the most diverse cabinet department in the government, Mallett played a lead role in promoting full market access for American companies in countries around the globe. He had a special interest in promoting small, medium-sized, and women-owned businesses.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity to join the Kennedy School faculty this semester and to meet and talk with students," Mallett said. "What I am able to offer them pales in comparison to what I will learn from both faculty and students. I am really excited about the opportunity Harvard has presented me."
