Radcliffe alums sponsor Women on Web conference

Recent statistics reveal that more women than men use the Internet. At a time when the exploding Web culture is changing the face of society, this datum is significant. Some of the ways in which it is signficant will be explored at a conference taking place on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Longfellow Hall. The conference, titled "Women and the Web: Navigating the Cyber Revolution," is sponsored by the Radcliffe College Alumnae Association. Kenote speakers include Candice Carpenter MBA '83, chairman of iVillage.com -- the leading women's online network; Moira Gunn, former NASA scientist and public radio luminary; and Justine Cassell, associate professor at M.I.T.'s Media Lab.

Some of the themes the conference will examine are the effects of Internet technology on quality of life; finding tools to help thrive -- not merely survive -- in the "Cyber Age"; and learning how to embrace the concept that, love it or hate it, the future is here.

The conference is open not only to Harvard and Radcliffe alumni/ae, faculty, staff, students, and fellows, but to the general public as well. Preregistration is required. Registration fees -- which include continental breakfast, lunch, and a postconference reception with Radcliffe Institute of Advanced Study Dean Elect Drew Gilpin Faust -- vary from $20 for current full-time Harvard students to $55 for alumni/ae, faculty, fellows, and staff, and $75 for the general public.
