Areeda Hall at Law School Reopens After Renovations

Areeda Hall at the Law School has reopened after receiving extensive renovations since spring 1999. Ceremonies celebrating the reopening took place in November.

The project has produced a new seminar room and an entire floor of new faculty offices. The existing faculty and staff offices, common spaces, the staff lounge, and restrooms were refurbished. Central air conditioning and a sprinkler system were installed and electrical and heating systems were replaced.

Construction will continue on the new entrance and stairwell to the outside of the Massachusetts Avenue side of the building. As a result, the bridge between the second and third floors of Areeda and Griswold will remain closed until the stairwell is completed.

This is the second phase of renovations for Areeda. In 1977, the fourth and fifth floors were renovated as part of the Langdell Hall renovation project.

Areeda Hall was built as an addition to Langdell Hall in 1929 and named Langdell West. It was renamed in the spring of 1995 in honor of Langdell Professor of Law Phillip Areeda (1930-1995).
