Faculty Council ‹ Nov. 17

At the fifth Faculty Council meeting of the year, Dean Paul Martin (Physics) presented, on behalf of the Standing Committee on Research Policy (of which he is chair), a proposal to establish the rank of "Research Fellow" in the Faculty.

In addition, Deans Nancy Maull (Administrative Dean of the Faculty) and Geoffrey Peters (Associate Dean for Administrative Resources) discussed with the Council the long-term implications of the difficulties currently being experienced with the implementation of Project ADAPT.

The Council also discussed the issues raised by the sale of lecture notes to commercial companies. Such practices are not permitted in Harvard College.

A request to change the name of the "Standing Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid in Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges" to the "Standing Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid in Harvard College" was approved by the Council.

The Council also approved the proposed Summer School courses for 2000.

The preliminary docket deadline for the Dec. 14 Faculty Meeting is Monday, Nov. 29, at 9:30 a.m. The Council next meets on Dec. 1.
