Online News Digest on World Health Launched
World Health News, an online news digest created by the School of Public Health's Center for Health Communication, directed by Jay Winsten, has been launched. The Website is located at http://www.worldhealthnews.harvard.edu. Dean Barry R. Bloom said the Website will serve as "a resource on critical public health issues around the world for an international audience of policymakers, journalists, and public health researchers, practitioners, and advocates." The first issue of the digest, Bloom said, "devotes major attention to the catastrophic AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa, where the epidemic is causing a major drop in life expectancy and where public health research and practice can make an immense difference." World Health News will offer a combination of original reporting and a digest of news stories and commentaries from newspapers and magazines worldwide on pressing issues in public health. The site will include special features prepared by the School of Public Health, such as videotaped interviews with experts, as well as access to radio and television coverage of important breaking public health news stories from Websites of leading news organizations. World Health News also will offer visitors the opportunity to e-mail their comments on issues covered; a selection of comments will be posted on the site.
