Symposium on Tiananmen Square examines political
situation
A symposium on "Reflecting on Tiananmen: Ten Years
Later" will take place at the Faculty Club and Lamont Library
on Wednesday, June 2, and Thursday, June 3. The event is sponsored
by the Program on Constitutional Government, the Democracy for
China Fund, and the Tiananmen Generation Association.
The panels are as follows:
"Current political situation in China," June 2, 2:30 to 4
p.m., Faculty Club; "How the free world should relate to
China," June 2, from 4:15 to 5:45, at the Faculty Club;
"Historical reflection," June 3, 9 to 10:30 a.m., Lamont
Library Conference Room; "China's democratic
future," June 3, 10:45 to 12:15 p.m., Lamont Library Conference
Room; Special symposium: "Reflection on Tiananmen by the
participants" (in Chinese), June 3, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., at the
Lamont Library Conference Room.
The event is free and open to the public.
Arnold Aboretum's plant specialist to host lecture,
walk
John DelRosso, the Arnold Arboretum's plant health care
specialist, will host a lecture and walk on identifying and managing
insect pests, plant diseases, and stresses in woody plants.
The event will take place on Thursday, June 3, from 6 to 9 p.m.
and on Saturday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to noon and will take place at
the Hunnewell Building, 125 Arborway, Jamaica Plain. The cost of the
event is $58.

Radcliffe Ceramics Studio to offer summer classes
The Radcliffe Ceramics Studio's schedule for the summer is
as follows: A 12-week session will be held June 14 to Sept. 5 ($610)
an eight-week session June 14 to Aug. 8 ($510); and an eight-week
session from July 12 to Sept. 5 ($510).
Tuition includes raku kiln, reduction firing kiln, soda vapor kiln
and electric kiln use, seven-day access to the studio, admission to
visiting artist workshops, instruction, and materials and firing.

Essays on Japan-related Topics Sought for Prize
Competition
The Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies is seeking applicants
for the Noma-Reischauer Prizes in Japanese Studies.
A $2,000 prize will be awarded to an undergraduate and a $3,000
prize will be awarded to a graduate student at Harvard for the best
essays on Japan-related topics. Please submit three copies of the
essay to Reischauer Institute, Coolidge Hall 319, 1737 Cambridge St.,
Cambridge, MA 02138. The deadline for submission is Wednesday,
June 30.
