The Annual Digital Video and Multimedia Fair has served as a meeting place for "technologists and educationists" at Harvard to share ideas, exchange notes on hardware and software, and show off new projects in various Schools and Departments. The Fair, in its sixth year, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Science Center. This year the Fair focuses on digital sound. Paul Bamberg, now retired from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, is the keynote speaker. Booths featuring demonstrations on the use of digital video and multimedia in classroom teaching, case studies, health care projects, urban design, language instruction, entertainment, music, libraries, and museum archives will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The presentations will begin at 1 p.m. in Science Center C. While the keynote talk will survey aspects of digital audio in regards to voice activation and speech recognition, various projects from different schools will be presented leading to the discussion regarding the use of technology in educational projects. Finally, a panel on "Multimedia in Learning and Teaching" will convene at 3:15 p.m. to focus on experiences by various groups in implementing multimedia projects in residential courses, Web-based teaching, distance education and Socratic methods. The Fair is free and open to the Harvard community. Preregistration is helpful and can be easily done by visiting the World Wide Web link at http://www.harvard.edu/multimedia.
